Recycling as an Community Project

St. Laurence's Church, a catholic church in Colombo, Sri Lanka, has initiated community project to collect trash (paper, glass, etc) to raise funds as well as to encourage its members to recycle.

Aptly named as the "Cash thru Trash" project, it is encouraging its parishioners to collect their old news papers, glass bottles, etc which can be recycled and hand them over to the church. The collected "Trash" are sold to a recycling firm. The revenue from the sale is used for the church's community work.

Collecting garbage and disposing them has become a burden for the city's Council. The "Cash Thru Trash" initiate, can somewhat reduces that burden. This is an good initiative on the part of the Church, to raise funds for its community activities, but it's playing its part in protecting the earth precious resources.
